Team Defeat Diabetes stands as one of the first-year teams joining TBT in 2022. Playing for those living with Type-1 Diabetes, this team finds itself placed in the Xavier Regional for the tournament. The squad sees Demonte Flannigan as a key contributor inside.
In its first year at TBT, Defeat Diabetes hopes to benefit those individuals living with Type-1 diabetes. The squad is sponsored by the JDRF, formerly known as by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. It will donate a portion of their winnings to the foundation.

Demonte Flannigan comes to Team Defeat Diabetes for TBT 2022 with five years of professional experience overseas. Flannigan spent his college days with a talented Cleveland State squad. He averaged double figures both his junior and senior seasons.
Flannigan’s pro career started with the London Lions of the UK’s top league for the 2017-2018 season. He went on to Svendborg Rabbits of Denmark’s top league to finish out the season. Flannigan continued his career with stops in Austria and Serbia. He since moved on to Georgia’s Superleague for this season.
With Mega Tbilisi, Flannigan dominated. He averaging 17.9 points and 9.8 rebounds-per-game. He finished top-10 in the league in scoring, as well as in rebounding, blocks, and efficiency rating. Flannigan earned a spot on the All-Caucasus Basketball League First Team. In addition, he won the league’s Forward of the Year award. What’s more, Flannigan helped his team win the league championship.

The Basketball Tournament, known by many these days as TBT, stands as one of the more popular forms of summer basketball for fans to enjoy. The tournament hosts 64 teams playing in a single-elimination bracket for a winner-take-all $1 million prize. Moreover, the teams are made up largely of professional and former college stars. Some represent their former schools whereas others play on sponsored teams, like Defeat Diabetes.
