He went onto have a stellar collegiate career at the University of Virginia and the University of Massachusetts. During his senior season at UMass, Forbes earned Atlantic-10 Player of the Year.

Following his college career, Forbes transitioned to the pro game. The next phase of Forbes’ career took him overseas.

Forbes earned an NBA training camp invite with the Denver Nuggets in 2010 and made the team’s roster for the 2010-11 season. He played 63 games as an NBA rookie that season, getting 11 starts. “We are excited to have an experienced player like him joining our fight against diabetes and compete!” said Defeat Diabetes GM Cristina Desemone.

Experience with Type-1 Diabetes and TBT

Gary Forbes is one of three players with Type-1 diabetes to play in the NBA. Following his stellar college career, Forbes joined Chris Dudley and Adam Morrison as the only other players in NBA history with Type-1 diabetes.
